Promotional Items, Promotional Products & Imprinted Merchandise for Business Giveaways and Tradeshows

Before you dismiss the online playground as a haunt for techies and college kids, you should know that a reported 80,000 small businesses now have a page on Facebook. This week, Visa teamed up with the dark horse of social networking sites to make a remarkable offer to U.S. based small business owners. Facebook will play host to a Visa run program known as Visa Business Network in the hopes of helping member small businesses connect with each other while showing them the value of advertising on the site.

The Visa Business Network is intended to provide small businesses a place to talk — a place with tools and tips on winning new customers, cutting costs and other suggestions for increasing income. Member business will be able to talk directly to each other — share resources or work out deals.

The Visa Business Network will also have Google based businesses features like maps, calendars, word processing, plus a template for business cards and expense reports. There will even be articles from the Wall Street Journal and Entrepreneur magazine to answer questions posed by member businesses.

You can give Facebook Ads a try for your own business by being one of the first 20,000 businesses to download the web application you need to join Visabusinessnetwork.com. As an incentive, Visa will give you a $100 “Facebook Ads” credit. The process is easy and quick, though you will need to supply credit card information to activate the offer and run your ads.

Over time, both Visa and Facebook hope the $100 credit leads to more paid advertising as businesses see how well the ads work. The thinking is that ads can be effectively targeted since Facebook has collected so much information on the likes and interests of its members. Others wonder how receptive people will be to advertising in a place they see as mainly social and fun.

Last month, Facebook drew 123.9 million visitors world wide, triple the numbers from this time last year. Clearly these online communities are here to stay. As social networking becomes more and more popular, small businesses may just find that there’s more than fun to be had… there’s good money to be made as well.
