Q & A On Promotions For The Home

What are the benefits of offering promos for the home?
There are selections appropriate for the entire family, even the family pet. Even in these fast-paced times when we hear that people spend less time at home as compared to the past, it is still where we land; it is our comfort zone. Positive messages at home help reinforce that comfort.

Products for the kitchen are great because the kitchen always seems to be the command-central location of the household. Many conversations and get-togethers seem to gather in the kitchen, so you can count on lots of exposure for products that are visible there.

The home is an intimate environment, and good product selection can transform a company’s image from stranger to friend.
Scott Meng
Home really is where the heart is. People look for comfort when they are home. They want relaxation and the ability to escape from their everyday routines.
Erica Mignogna
The kitchen becomes the core for almost all actions or decisions, like the military equivalent of C3: command, control and communication.

Our homes are where we focus most of our energy and money. The home is where we work to provide an atmosphere of comfort and enjoyment for our families and ourselves. When you provide a gift that is home-related, you honor what is most important to people: family.

Promos for the home are very useful and personal. They are great gifts for both men and women, and they get noticed around the house. Often, we recommend our items be given as an ongoing gift to create a kitchen set for either customer appreciation or employee recognition. One month they may purchase a spoon, then a spatula, possibly a knife or even a spoon rest.

What types of clients are more likely to give home promos?
How about clients that rely on location as a main source of their business? Restaurants, salons and spas, retailers, dry cleaners and banks can all focus their promotions geographically to target consumers who purchase based on proximity to their homes.
Scott Meng
A home-related gift is always appropriate for an employer. We may spend much of our day at work, but the home is what we work for. When an employer acknowledges the importance of an employee’s home and family, the employee feels greatly appreciated.

When is a good time to advertise with home products?
I think home products are great year-round. I always love receiving gifts! But when I receive a gift that is specifically for me to use in my personal time at home, I am especially appreciative. It makes me feel like the person giving the gift thought a little deeper about what to give me personally, and didn’t just pick a gift for my office.

Families and friends gather together in homes throughout the year. The gift of a knife set can be used during the holidays, as well as at a summer cookout. Advertising with products for the home allows year-round exposure to your brand and is still a relatively new real-estate opportunity.
Erica Mignogna
The best product recommendations depend on the season. Spring and summer are perfect for barbecue and tool items; this is the time of year people plant flowers, work in their yards, barbecue, play and take on huge home projects. Home-decoration gifts are more appropriate in the fourth quarter when residents focus on the season of appreciation.

All year round. Especially now in today’s economy, people are staying home more and entertaining, and they are doing more home improvements themselves.
Julie Spear
Beyond kitchen gadgets and tools, what promotional products are good for the home?
We all know the benefits of refrigerator magnets, but one that provides emergency and health information for family members is an exceptional item. Likewise, child-identification kits or alerts about rescuing pets during an emergency are also very strong items that bring an extra layer of comfort.
Jim Espinoza
Executive desk clocks are great for home use. Creative designs on wall clocks or beautiful photo frames are very useful, as well, and vacuum bottle/tumbler sets are great, too.
Jennifer Grigorian
Calendars are a must for the home because you can record the family’s schedules and important dates for everyone to see.
Gary Haley
Think in terms of different rooms in a home. Dining: wine glasses. Kitchen: aprons. Living room: coasters. Family room: digital frames. Bedroom: alarm clocks. Bathroom: towels. Garage: tools. Even the home’s exterior holds promotional opportunities, such as signs and grilling tools.
Scott Meng
We try not to use the word “gadgets,” and so should Corporate Logo. Seriously, other products that are great for the home include mugs, six- or eight-piece sets of tumblers and night lights as safety products.
Jim Moore
What are some great tag lines that fit well with home products?
“Come see what’s cookin’ with …”
Gary Haley
You can play off the hot theme with barbecue sets or one of our Zippo multipurpose lighters. Wine sets are great for “cheers” on a job well done. Knife sets work for “carving out time” and “cutting through the competition.”
Erica Mignogna
The key is to fit the slogan to the product and the advertiser’s business or promotional objective. For example, “Because we have all the financial tools” for a bank would be great with a multiple-use tool but questionable for an ice cube tray.
Using coupons custom designed to fit over Mi’s World’s Best Pizza Cutter, one bank advertised, “Bring this coupon in to slice $100 off the closing cost of your next mortgage.” Counting coupons — and the dollars generated — easily demonstrates the customer’s ROI.
Jim Moore
“Turn up the heat with …” Or, “A scoopful of thanks …”
