The Benefits of Giving Back

Sometimes we all want to spread a little good in the world.

In case you missed it, yesterday was World Blood Donor Day. It was a day to recognize those who give blood, as well as those who need it. World Blood Donor Day is an excellent time to carve out some of your day to give blood yourself. (And as someone who has needed blood in the past, I thank you!)

Days of giving, like yesterday, are all throughout the year – such as World Kindness Day (November 13). While it’s a great idea to take care of each other every day of the year, these specified days can be helpful. They remind us all of specific needs in our communities and provide a day for people to focus on those needs.

One thing that you can do – for those in need, as well as to help your business – is to pick at least one of these days and create an event or fundraiser. Collect canned foods at the office. Sign up to do a ‘race for the cure.’ Donate socks to the homeless. (Fact: Socks are one of the most needed and least donated items to homeless outreach organizations.)

In addition to giving back to others, these actions will also help your business. How? Well, providing humanitarian services puts people in better spirits. By doing these things, you are boosting morale for your employees. You are bringing them together as a team for the better good. And happy employees mean a smoother running business. Be a giver and see the rewards that you will reap all around.
