Whatever you have, and whatever you like to call it, small businesses make the world go round. It’s important to recognize these businesses, as they provide for the economy and often offer a wide variety of items that customers may have a hard time finding. Many of them are also family-owned, being passed down from generation to generation, which can be appealing to customers who find them easier to work with.

There are many types of small businesses, from family-owned-and-operated to one-man-gigs. And many folks don’t understand just how crucial they are. Small businesses account for 44% of economic activity and create two-thirds of new jobs. They also produce 16 times more patents per employee than large patenting firms do. It’s also important to remember that every big business started off on a small scale!

Whether you’re in the corporate world or are a small business owner yourself, remember to give the mom-and-pop shops a chance. They do more than most realize.
