Now is the time to look forward at what holidays are coming up this spring. One of the most popular holidays is Cinco de Mayo. It is a day recognizing the Mexican army’s victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. [It is NOT Mexican Independence Day, as many believe.] Oddly enough, the day is celebrated more in the United States than in Mexico – but it has become a day to celebrate Mexican heritage.
Cinco de Mayo is a great day to reach out to your Mexican-American customers, or even teaching others about the culture. Something important to note: make sure that you and your company are being mindful of presenting facts and representing the people appropriately. You may want to have Mexican-American employees or friends assist in making sure that your celebration is appreciated by all.
